☀️Summer (Pitta Season) Well-Being Guide
Ayurvedic wisdom to help you stay cool + calm ⛱️😎 as the summer heat 🔥 rises.
The Season of the Sun
Summer is awesome! During the season of the sun, we get to enjoy longer days, more activities, more of nature and more of the sun. 🛶🏝️⛱️🌳☀️✈️🛵🚴🏽♀️🏄🏾♂️🏊🏼♀️
It’s all good….until we get overheated, dehydrated and begin to experience the side effects that come along with an aggravated Pitta 🥵.
Summer Heat Exhaustion: the domino effect when my pitta is pushed to the limits.
The picture of me on the left is from last summer when I went to India on a quick, tightly scheduled, 7-day trip to help my meditation teacher and her family perform the final rites for their sweet mother. Between the sadness and emotional heaviness of the occasion, the jet lag, packed schedule and the constant 90 degree temps with close to 100% humidity— this trip wreaked havoc on my body.
Since we were constantly on the move, I was constantly drenched and dripping in sweat. This pic is no exaggeration—even though it looks like I just stepped out of the shower, I had not :). Needless to say, it didn’t take long for me to get overheated and experience the domino effect of my pitta being pushed to the limits. I quickly became dehydrated, fatigued and irritated as I began to experience a bad case of diarrhea, headaches and swollen feet. It was an honor to be there to support the family and witness all the beautiful ceremonies, but it was truly one of the toughest trips of my lifetime.
When my pitta is out of balance…life is not so fun.
Summer Glow: the effects of my pitta in balance.
The picture of me on the right is also from last year. It was taken the last day of a short, 4-day trip to the Virgin Islands that I took with my husband — courtesy of his work :). Just like the India trip, the travels were a trek from California (18-hrs door-to-door!), the temps and humidity were equally high and the few days we had on the ground also had a schedule + mission that kept us busy. However, through it all, we were able to stay better hydrated, better rested and were able to get in mini pitta-pacifying breaks throughout out our stay. So although this trip had a focused schedule, too, we still managed to keep our pittas in balance — which resulted in more of a healthy glow when we left.
When my pitta (and my husband’s pitta) is in balance…life is so much more enjoyable :)!
How do you manage your pitta?
As temperatures across the globe keep rising, it’s more important than ever to be able to manage our Pitta (the fire +water elements in our body). Since summer is Pitta Season— the hottest and most moist time of the year— that makes the potential for our pitta to rise too. Especially if the Pitta dosha is dominant in your personal constitution; it probably doesn’t take much to get overheated and experience the side effects of Pitta, which can include acid reflux, painful menstrual cramps, skin rashes, headaches, diarrhea, swollen limbs….and so much more.
So, how do you manage your Pitta?
